The United Nations peacekeeping mission in Cyprus has been in operation
for over 40 years making it the longest in the UN’s history.
This series, commissioned by MONOCLE, captures the buffer zone – which passes through abandoned sections of Nicosia, its derelict airport and the Cypriot countryside – and the military personal involved in keeping it secure. The operation is headed up by Major General Kristen Lund, the first woman to serve as Force Commander on a UN peacekeeping mission (pictured above).
