Morocco’s thriving hubs of industry – Casablanca, Fez & Rabat – are being heralded as shining examples of successful economies in an otherwise troubled region. I was sent by MONOCLE to capture these cities, and to photograph some of the people behind this economic success, including local businessmen and government minsters.
However, despite these progressive strides into industry and commerce, some aspects of Moroccan life remain wedded to the past; in particular the public shows of devotion towards the unelected head of state – King Mohammed IV – whose image adorns every corner of Morocco (from the souks to local cafes) shown here in this series.
